Sustainable fabrics

The textile industry is moving fast to respond to the demand for more environmentally friendly products and many fabric companies are now developing ranges with recycled yarns or polyester made from plastic or other waste products.

Whilst there are a variety of fabrics available, one eco friendly route is to choose 100% cotton or linen rather than polyester and man made threads.

Linen is one of our favourite sustainable fabrics because it requires low amounts of irrigation, pesticides, and fertiliser in the growing stage. It also removes CO2 from the environment. One hectare of flax can take 3.7 tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere, making it a great choice if you want a fabric that has less impact on the planet.

Saving heat and keeping your home cool

Curtains and blinds are invaluable when trying to insulate your home against the heat and the cold. During the winter drawing the curtains as soon as the sun starts setting will help to keep your home warm, whilst drawing the blinds or curtains down against the heat of the summer sun will help keep the sun from heating up your home.
